No matter how long you have known someone, they will ultimately show their true colors.
I get fooled time and again, year after year, believing that finally I found someone I can trust.
From my school days, I learnt to build life long relationships. It has always been my intention to maintain contact with people for long term.
However, I realize all it takes is for your circumstance to change.
My experience at work was I had the best working relationship with people. The day I put my papers, everyone’s attitude changed. My vendors used to be concerned about my health and well being all the time, because I gave them business. Not anymore.
Friends are no different. I had to just tell people I no longer live in the United Kingdom and returned to India and since then I haven’t heard from anyone, especially those who used to inquire about me to know the U.K. weather quite regularly.
For past few years, I have now got used to it and not surprised at all. Yet, it does not stop me from interacting with people or get to know people.
I can’t change people and I don’t want to. I can only set an example by not being like them.
Because, I always believed that it doesn’t matter how good looking one is or how much wealth s/he has gained, one’s true character is tested when someone you know is facing challenges in life. How do you respond to such situations ?
If you won’t be there when someone needs you the most, then I am sorry I wouldn’t want to be associated with such people. Unfortunately, you know their true character, only when you are facing adversity in life.
Karma is a bitch and she comes back to haunt people who let down people they knew in times of difficulties.
I look at the positive. I am now stronger than ever – thanks to all those who showed their true colors when it mattered the most.
A very realistic write-up!

Few people are there for the long haul and that is a bitter pill to swallow. Some are in your life for a short period. Why? Might just have been just for that moment. The ones most loud about your friendship may not be the ones you can call in the middle of the night. The one you seldomly see might be the one who responds to a text message or a remark on social media. Facing adversity filters your acquaintances from your friends.

Very true Alice…and hence I am left with just people who comment on my thoughts.

I know the feeling. I have never wanted or had a lot of friends; just a handful whom I thought I could rely on. But it hurt a lot when some of them were not there for me when I was going through the worst phase of my life. Has everybody become selfish these days?

Yes, we can only know those who are to be considered our true friends in times of our adversities and needs, they will be there and never leave us and we feel they will do everything in their power to lessen our pain. I hope you continue to find people who are worthy to be your friend. 🙂 Keep sharing!

I believe that for every person that enters our life there is still a purpose. We don’t know how long they will be there or how the relationship will turn out but we should always value the time we have and accept the gifts we receive openly. Every person has their own gift to share even if it has been one that awakened our anger. We would not know how to deal with people that anger us if we did not have the opportunity to experience and learn from that person.
