There is too much noise out there….. Should humans learn to communicate via sign language ?

I always wondered what was the purpose of inventing language. Was it that we communicate our thoughts to another human being, how we feel about ourselves, our emotions and our desires ?

Clearly, we are not doing that well anyway. We expect others to read what is inside our head.

We express anger very well by yelling at people who have nothing to do with our misery, however, we seldom express love, gratitude and kindness to people who have been kind to us.

Majority of us have learnt about our universe, technology, history and politics through our educational institutes or by reading books. Yet, we have not learnt how to communicate with another human being and show courtesy and respect.

People send lot of time complaining about others. Back stabbing about people or perhaps even laughing at others.

But, no time to inquire about another human’s well being.

I hate sound if it is not pleasant. Hence, I avoid television completely. I read about current topics on the internet.

I love to hear instrumental music. They give me a lot of peace more than any words any human can say to me.

What if we learnt to speak only when it is absolutely necessary and unavoidable ?

Or even better, just listen to someone who just wants to vent it out.

And if everyone in this world just listened, could this world be a better place to live ?

  1. You express some very important and profound ideas Sudhir. 🙂

Feedback is a need for existence. Only if we all started listening each other attentively, our relationships will improve a lot and the world will become heavenly 🙂

    Love and light ❤

  2. For a lot of people it is easier to communicate on social media than it is to communicate on a personal level. People are becoming less patient, there is a need to respond to emails, texts etc., immediately and if you don’t people get anxious as to why you haven’t responded. It would be easier if they called and verbally spoke. A lot quicker and by having a conversation matters would come to a close. Are we losing the art of conversation and discussion. Where we can see facial expressions and body language. By visually seeing we are also learning. The world is getting faster, louder however, are we hearing one another…. 🙂 Interesting post I enjoyed reading it Sudhir.

    1. Indeed Milanka. Someday, people will start saying ‘LOL’ than actually laughing. The worst experience is at workplace where were employees are supposed to reach on time to work just to check and reply e-mails to people sitting next to you. And I am saying from my experience working for a mobile phone company.
Thank you for your comment. Keep in touch. Have a nice day ! Regards, Sudhir

      1. since we can hear we can differentiate between jarring and pleasing sound…and take our hearing granted. Those who actually use sign language, what they wouldn’t give to hear any kind of sound! So no, chaos or no I will never wish for using sign language…how will a mother know whether her child is crying, whether her child needs something, how would a wife enjoy endearing words of her husband… No I would never want a silent world!

  3. Very wise insights you shared here, Sudhir. It was a joy to read your entry! 🙂

I am a silence lover as well and I avoid any noise if possible, including television and radio. What I love more is seeking God in silence, somewhere in nature, where no people distract me. Since only if I get quiet in my heart and mind, I can hear His voice clearly. If I have no possibility to do so, the normal everyday life, even with its “silent” internet stuff that has to be done, can drive me nuts . 😛

In fact, there are several Scriptures in the Bible that confirm what you were saying in your post, but I decided to only paste the following verses.

For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling, and you said, “No! We will flee upon horses”; therefore you shall flee away; and, “We will ride upon swift steeds”; therefore your pursuers shall be swift. (Is 30:15-16 ESV)

Indeed, after a silent time with God, I feel much stronger than after those times when I had been together with people who would share their countless deliberations on this and that with me. That can be really unnerving!! Also, it is wonderful to listen to the voice of someone who is himself used to those silent times. These people are rather inclined to only speak what is necessary, encouraging, and loving. The apostle James wrote,

“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” (Js 1:19-20 ESV)

Isn’t it true that people who have the tendency to speak without ceasing (and punctuation 😉 ) are more easily tempted to get angry? That does not mean that someone who remains silent cannot get angry in his heart just the same. However, sometimes it is better to exercise a little self-control and to let that anger out before God. At least, that is what I often do. And God is extremely patient with angry Susanne, even though I have often been mad at Him too. 🙂

      1. Yes, I believe you are right, Sudhir. Suppressed feelings, including anger, cause our soul to react later, perhaps in the midst of difficult circumstances that might have triggered our negative feelings to pop up somehow. Isn’t it strange how much our behavior (outwardly) and our true human nature (inwardly) can differ from one another?

      2. Indeed Susanne…That is what has been happening to me. Been an introvert and quiet and let people walk all over me, had left me with a lot of bitterness that is now being expressed in form of anger. I vent it out by writing.

      3. Yes, writing helps a lot! Great idea to deal with it, Sudhir. While writing it out, we see more than we did by simply following our usual habit of “hamster wheeling thoughts” (i.e., always the same unnerving and often even tormenting stuff inside our mind).

      4. So true! Same here… At first I wrote only to myself. But today, having exchanges with others about it, I keep learning. Many eyes see more than only two, it seems. 😉

Thank you for your wise contribution to help me learn every day, Sudhir! 🙂

      5. Actually, I am only helping myself. There will be more that I will share with root cause and how to deal with it. I did not have anyone who understood me, hence I now try to understand what others are going through. Sometimes that is all they need.

      6. Yes, very well said, Sudhir! ⭐

I have seen that I cannot really help anyone with what they are going through but to only offer an open ear that listens. If I have experienced their very pain myself, I know I can fully understand them and feel great compassion. If I did not have similar experiences yet, I try to understand them at least…with God’s help.

      7. I feel this interaction itself is of great help Susanne. That is the purpose of the blog.
I work on a start up..all alone and lot of hard work…and my family choose to stay with in laws.
Hence, I choose to blog to at least have a human interaction.
